A diagnostic wax-up is a critical tool for complex cases. Before designing a diagnostic
wax-up, ask the following questions.
- What does the patient like or dislike about his/her current smile?
- Any bite problems or grinding habit?
- Does the gum line need to be altered?
- Does the dental midline coincide with the facial midline?
- Is the buccal corridor full or collapsed?
- How many teeth need to be included?
- What is the physiological bite relationship?
The diagnostic wax-up is used for the following areas:
- To diagnose potential problems and identify the solutions to the problems.
- To create arch forms and design tooth shapes.
- To create a blue print for the patient for what the new smile will look like.
- To communicate goals.
Unique will fabricate the matrix to be used as a mold for the next step of comprehensive
dentistry, the Provisionals.
